Dancing with the roads to the gong show
So the adventure begins and we
head to Ho Chi Minh, (formerly known as Saigon) the capital of
the South. Wow now being in the big city was over whelming to
say the least, we followed a self guided walking tour... |

The DeMiltarized Zone
After 45 minutes of roaming the
streets, our "bus" (which is actually a van), was filled to
capacity (or so I thought), and was on its' way to Dong Ha. I
thought 16 people (four per small row) was plenty... |

A trip to Da Lat
We then went to a 'chicken
minority village' - we were not quite sure what this was and had
visions of little rejected albino chickens shunned up into the
mountains :) But instead it is actually a small village made up
of people that until not that long ago... |

Rock climbing in Da Lat
Becca and I went rock climbing in
Dalat today and escaped from my mom "the manicurist" who is very
pissed off at me for not towing the group ideology. She
attempted to make us feel bad and jealous by saying that it was
more fun going in a group... |

Cambodia to Vietnam - Mekong River Journey
- We departed Phnom Penh by bus and after a 3 hour bus journey
through remote rural areas (and after a taxi and mini bus ride
before the bus) we reached the place where our boat was waiting.
We were expecting a port or at the very least a small harbour
with wooden jetties... |

Hoi An and Back
- So what have I been up to the last couple of days besides
blacking out the central coast of Vietnam? We decided to pay a
few extra bucks and take a plane from Hoian back to Hanoi
instead of taking a train. The train would have taken 16 hours
while the plane was a little more than an hour... |
|
Nha Trang scuba diving
- After the diving we were both exhausted and ended up sleeping
from about 14-1630. We got up after a fight with the bed... |
|
Hoi An & Hue: tailors and tropical storms -
Hoi An is also well known for the prolific number of tailoring
stores which all offer made to measure clothes at varying cost
and quality. but all for a fraction of the price you would get
back home... |
|
Muddling about in Nha Trang -
The next day we went for
our snorkelling trip. We had the option to do the party boat
which included the famous floating bar but it included less than
30 minutes of snorkelling... |
|
Northern Vietnam
- Sapa is in the heart of the local minority villages, a bit
like Kon Tum although a boom in tourism over the past decade has
created a dependancy. Stepping off the bus we were engulfed by
offers; some thinking we needed a roof over our heads... |
|
Old world charm and the Viet-Cong -
After half an hour or so of wandering around in the tunnels and
visiting the on sight museum dedicated to the people who
survived the ordeal we carried on back across the Ben Hai river
with a few stops at a memorial statue and the ‘Rock Pile’...
